2nd International Invited Workshop on
the Theories and Intricacies of Information Security Problems

Call for Extended Abstracts
The INTRICATE-SEC workshop is an annual invited workshop for researchers in information security. INTRICATE-SEC seeks papers on foundational and unconventional aspects of computer security, e.g., formal security models, usability and provider requirements, trust and identity management, and tools for design and analysis of security mechanisms as well as their application to practice. While INTRICATE-SEC welcomes submissions beyond the topics listed below, the main focus of INTRICATE-SEC is information security.
Synopsis: In recent years, information security systems have become increasingly popular because of hardware and software innovations. Powerful processors make
time intensive
computations faster but have also
made security
violations
much easier. Attacks
on
computing systems
have
shifted from being simple attacks
perpetrated by socially maladjusted teenagers
to a concerted criminal activity. It therefore makes sense to explore alternative or unconventional approaches to solving problems of information security including the support of a variety of user requirements as well as provider requirements. The fact that computer systems are
changing rapidly and extending
their boundaries in environments
such as cloud computing and service oriented architectures introduces more intricacies in security measures.
Survey or Vision Papers: INTRICATE-SEC aims to compliment the Information Security South Africa (ISSA) Conference with invited survey papers on the theories and intricacies of provisioning information security. We particularly encourage vision papers that describe open questions, raise concerns about practical security, and propose potential directions forward. These vision papers should be focused on a real world security problem, argue for why it raises a challenge, and postulate on a relevant technique for addressing the issue. These papers will appear in the INTRICATE-SEC proceedings and will be presented at the workshop.
Proceedings will be available at the workshop and selected abstracts will be invited for extension and submission as book chapters in a book published by IGI Global, USA.
Topics: Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
|
Unconventional security solutions |
Anonymization and Authentication |
|
Mobile Viruses and Worms |
Protecting Fragmented Data |
|
Information Forensics |
Information Flow Control |
|
Identity and Trust Management |
Formal Methods of Verification |
|
Intrusion Detection |
Cloud Security |
|
Inter---Enterprise Security |
|
Submission Instructions: Submitted
abstracts must not substantially overlap with papers that have been
published
or that are simultaneously submitted to a journal or a conference with
published proceedings. Duplications or overlap with other published or
submitted papers will be considered as grounds for rejection.
Abstracts
should be submitted in Portable Document Format (PDF) only. At least
one co-author
of each accepted abstract is required to attend INTRICATE-SEC to
present the abstract.
Abstracts
must be submitted using the one-column Proceedings style. Templates are
available at the INTRICATE-SEC template page (pdf,
teX, bib).
Abstracts should be at
most 3 pages long, not counting bibliography and well-marked
appendices.
Committee members are not required to read appendices, and so the
abstract must
be intelligible without them.
Abstracts
should be submitted using the INTRICATE-SEC
2013
submission site.
The abstract submission deadline is April
7,
2013.
