It was found through these experiments that different lighting conditions impacts on operator performance:

Furthermore, it was shown that different lighting conditions have no impact on the number of collisions.
The impact of lighting on seek time for victims is not surprising, as one would expect operators to take longer to find victims if they have difficulty seeing their surroundings. However, what is suprising is that the change in lighting conditions has no impact on the number of collisions which occur. On closer examination one can see that users can make use of the laser scanner, which is not effected by poor lighting, to avoid obstacles.
