Current position(s)

I am the UCT-CSIR Chair in Artificial Intelligence, a full professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Cape Town and Director of the national Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research (CAIR)

I am an NRF B-rated (Internationally Acclaimed) researcher.

Before joining the University of Cape Town I was a Chief Scientist at the CSIR's Meraka Institute, and Honorary Professor in the School of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Prior to joining the CSIR I was a senior researcher in the Knowledge Representation and Reasoning program (KRR) of NICTA, a conjoint associate professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of New South Wales, an associate professor in Computer Science at the University of Pretoria, a research fellow at the University of Wollongong, and a senior lecturer at the University of South Africa. I received my PhD in Computer Science from the University of South Africa in 1999.
